There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of many borders.
The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling hall, features 150 slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that contains many comforts on top of the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
