There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect area, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many borders.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel complex that contains many conveniences on top of the casino, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
