There is an interesting story to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino gaming is prohibited. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling hall, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that contains a number of amenities aside from the casino, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
